Balanced Beauty

Beautiful Mind Challenge

Around 2011 both my sister and I became Zumba fitness instructors and we had big plans to help a lot of ladies get fit. I would bring in my nutritional background and she would blend in her knowledge of the fitness industry.

The unthinkable happened.

Then in 2015 she was diagnosed with stage-4 cancer as a result of a molar pregnancy.

It was horrible.

My instincts took me deep into prayer and back to the lessons of prayer & MANA.

We prayed for guidance.

The thought of chemotherapy freaked us out but the tumor markers were growing so quickly.

Collectively we knew that the healing needed to involve all areas of her being.  Because diseases like these attack the body, plays tricks on the mind and can damage the soul.
— Ho'omalamalama

I wanted to find a way to keep her MIND, BODY & SOUL strong during her treatment. The cancer was in her uterus, bladder & lungs. Her physician took a chance and put her on a rigorous program including 7 TYPES OF CHEMO, one drip was about 12 hours long. I wanted to propose something to my Ohana (family) with a product line that I enjoy. So my Ohana got together and I said, “What do we have to loose, why not take a chance and put these products to the test. The other side is death.

The cancer was in three major areas.

We’ve only heard stories about people trying this but we’ve never seen it in action. So she started with a bottle of Genesis™ per day and two packets of Ultra Vitality. That gave her white blood cells the ability to sustain itself during the intense chemo cycle. She had an appetite during her entire treatment and eventually added smoothies with beets, cucumber, cilantro, apple, banana, chia seeds, hemp hearts & more Ultra Vitality.

We were scared but stuck to the plan.

The dangerous part was if her white blood cells dropped too low they would have to pull back on the chemo. Now when I say advanced I mean this cancer was spreading quickly and she couldn’t stop using her Genesis™ or risk taking a break from the treatments. Somehow the two were working in favor of her body and the tumor markers began to decrease from over 200,000 to 170,000 to 140,000…

BEFORE

I wanted to connect daily.

All the while I kept writing hoping that she was reading my blog and trying some of the challenges. It clawed at my faith and bruised my hope to see her going through this but I never showed it during my visits or daily chats. While she was in treatment my husband and I moved her Ohana into our home due to her husband’s work schedule and the chemo sessions. It was school, work, martial arts, dance classes as usual… almost.

I wanted to encourage her beautiful mind.

Everyone contributed from our brother buying nutrients, parents becoming caregivers, my household welcoming hers, her midwife Nancy, our 1st cousin’s the Kaikala’s, Aunty Josie & family, Aunty Nani & Aunty Aunty Denise mailing poi and many more.

During

Blessings upon blessings.

Then it happened her body responded well to the to kill the orcs (cancer cells) treatment which included her supplements at home, whole foods and walks. In fact her doctor told her, “What ever you’re doing, don’t stop.” I pray for more doctors like him who listen to their patients and after four (4) months the cancer is in remission!

How to Level Up by Letting Go

We hear people talking about leveling up their life, lifestyle or life’s work but what about letting go to level-up? We often associate letting go with emotional stress or struggles but is there more to it? How can letting go influence or effect our finances, future opportunities or decision making abilities?

The sad truth is this… holding on to certain things can effect your ability to level up.

The reason hides behind one word, REGRET!

Often we hold on to something because we feel regret. Unfortunately regret can last a lifetime and embed itself into our mind, body and soul. If not addressed it will seep in and destroy all forms of love, self-appreciation and creativity. It’s a dark disease of the soul who opens the door to doubt and ungratefulness.

Regret: To feel sad or disappointed over something that has happened or been done, especially a loss or missed opportunity. [online dictionary]

I heard this analogy; The windshield on your car is big for a reason, to show you where you're going. However, the rearview window is tiny in comparison and gives you the opportunity to refer to what’s behind but only for a brief moment.

A person who lives in regret will always bring up the past, talk about unfinished projects that are no longer relevant and have trouble pivoting. I can relate because this was me for many years after my grandmother died. Then I realized she was all about her ‘Ohana, community and her bible. As long as I was loving my children (she loved children), building community and reading my bible I was making her proud. I didn’t have to move or build a monument to her name, I just had to love.

There’s hope!

Letting go is the practice of releasing to clear the clutter (it can be physical, spiritual or emotional) and make space for the things you desire. Basically to fulfill you purpose and LEVEL UP. I’m not going to cover how to let go because I wrote about it in previous post which I’ll link here on the blogpost.

I’m going to hope and assume that you’ve already let go and are ready to level up in your life, relationships and sharing your gift with the world.

How to Level Up

Make a List

List are helpful strategies to release the pressure from our brain. We often hold a lot in our thoughts but it won’t get done if you're not physically aware.

Writing stuff out makes us physically aware of what’s mentally happening.

Make Time

It’s not enough to have a level-up list of things you want to complete. If you’re not making time you will never achieve anything of value or worth.

Once you chose a place in your schedule to work on your level-up skills or plan then commit to a block of time.

It’s important that you're staunch about the time you set aside. If you don’t believe me then look in history, every person who made a significant contribution to society made time to make-it-happen.

Make Your Bed

This is the mother in me but I’m not alone in this. There were studies completed that proved the psychology of positive daily habits and how it boost ones potential. They noticed that people who got up and made their bed often achieved more in life.

A simple gesture creates the natural tendency to level up.

Make Yourself

Again this is the mom in me but take the time to make yourself pleasant and reflect the beauty within. Essentially I’m referring to our work-life during quarantine and how we got comfortable with complacency. Our whole culture shifted and it was okay to live in pajamas 24/7 because everyone else was.

Remember the goal is to level-up your life not anyone else’s.

I initially struggled getting all-dressed-up for my living room but it eventually paid off. I took my work more seriously because I was dressed for success.

Make It Happen

No one’s going to level-up for you but with consistency you’ll get there. The probability of you trying once and failing is 99.9% but if you tried 100times you will succeed at least once. And those odds aren’t terrible because it takes one moment to be wildly successful in health and wealth but you you have to be consistent.

When you show up for your dreams, goals and visions it will show-out for you.

Bonus

Having a planning system is key and it will change your life.

Why self-care and selfish should go together.

malama.jpg

Let’s remove the guilt

and start embracing the importance of self-care. And “yes” putting everything on pause can sound selfish. But what’s wrong with that?

It’s not like I’m suggesting that you let children go hungry, ignore the home, forget to return important calls or leave a burning pot on the stove.

You need this!

With all the stress and ugly in the world you need time and a place to refresh.

Blessed is she who knows her worth and is esteemed, WOMAN is her kind.
— Hoomalamalama

Think about the check engine light on your dashboard and imagine that you’re too busy to fix it, leaving the task for tomorrow. Eventually tomorrow becomes a week, then a month. Without warning, while you’re driving to an important event, the engine starts smoking and it stalls. Right in the middle of a four way traffic sign

Your initial attitude is frustration, anger and blame but it warned you. Is that really fair?

Intentional Self-Care

Intentional self-care is making time for your self and not letting anything get in your way. If an emergency should occur, take care of it then return to your plan. (As soon as it’s possible.)

Don’t expect people around you to understand. Why? Because most humans care about things that involve them and your self-care routine doesn’t and it shouldn’t include anyone but you.

You’re not meant to share this moment with anyone and you need to be selfish. This is a sacred time set aside to nourish and protect your greatest investment… your body. (Mind and soul included.)

Plan it, Do it, Done

We can talk all day about what we want to do but doing is so much better. The previous blogpost I wrote about keeping your promises. I was referring to the promise you make to yourself. If you plan to do something, do it!

Below is a few pages from my 2021 planner spread and my theme was terrarium. It represents an ideal environment where I am the creator of its anatomy.

Mālama Kou Kino

If you take care of your body it will take care of you. It really is that simple.

Habits and Rituals

HABITS: trained to do.

RITUAL: habit with heart.

Habits are always happening regardless of them being negative or positive. It becomes a part of our daily lives and we might not even notice our habits. Like the way you hold a pen, where you place your keys or how often you drink water. Even sloppiness can turn into a habit.

Rituals, however are significant because it allows you to take a habit and make it soulful. By adding a few elements you can boost a mundane activity and turn it into "Marvelous!"

Living Holistic

Living holistic is facing everyday challenges with the knowledge that you are creating a legacy. Everything you do today matters. There aren't coincidences because your life is filled with purpose which will guide you from the depths of your subconscious. That's why it's important to create a lifestyle that will support your subconscious. That's the holistic way of living.

People who practice holistic living have one thing in common... harmony. The feeling that what you put out into the universe is full of beauty and light. These type of people are realist with a twist. The twist is that they may see negativity but they refuse to project it. I speaking from experience.

Recently I was hanging out with a friend, whom I haven't seen in ages, and we both appreciate holistic, organic and entrepreneurship. My meet-up was interesting because her conversation was filled with frustration, dislike[s] and obscurities about our current president. Now I live in the same country and community which makes her realities mine. She wanted me to jump on the bashing bandwagon but I couldn't. [WHY?] I choose to emulate light. It's a tough road but worth it since I live with little to no regrets.

5 KEYS TO UNLOCK YOUR HOLISTIC LIFESTYLE

  1. Observe what is around you.

  2. Write what you see into two columns: Like & Dislike

  3. Break down the 'Dislike' into two separate list: Change & Unchangeable

  4. Take the 'Unchangeable' list and LET IT GO.

  5. Use the 'Change' list and turn them into task. Tackle one task at a time.

Holistic living is a daily and active choice, made by the courageous.

About a year ago I wrote an article and taught others how to create a space for their subconscious to thrive. You can read about that experience here. The benefits come over time and you might not even notice it at first. I really enjoy teaching others how to accomplish "Subconscious Curating."
